Grilled Asparagus

These delicious asparagus spears are a great side for a steak and are pretty easy to cook.  This is probably my favorite veggie side for any meat for that matter.    You can use any Italian dressing to marinate them or you can just mix with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic.  I highly recommend using the thicker asparagus spears unless you want your grill bottom covered in charred escapees. Either way, just know that your pee will stink in the morning.  You’re welcome.

Prep Time:

15 minutes

Cook Time (approx.):

10 minutes

Grill Temp:

350° to 400°

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of large asparagus
  • ½ cup of Italian dressing
  • ¼ cup of shredded Parmesan

Steps:

  1. Cut the stalks about ½ to 1 inch from base.
  2. Place in container.
  3. Pour Italian dressing over asparagus, close lid, and shake to coat.
  4. Place in fridge to marinate for at least 4 hours.
  5. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes over direct heat.
  6. Rotate asparagus after 4 to 5 minutes.
  7. Grill for another 5 minutes until you have a good char and asparagus is a bit soft. (Not crunchy.)
  8. Optional: Crack fresh pepper and shred some parmesan over asparagus to serve.

Tips:

  • I shouldn’t have to say this, but line the asparagus up perpendicular to the grill grate. Otherwise they will fall through.
  • Don’t use thin asparagus. Pony up for the thicker ones.
  • To figure out how far up to trim the stalks, try to snap from the bottom and keep moving towards the head until the stalk easily breaks. Trim the rest of the bunch the same amount.
  • To get rid of the horrendous pee smell, drink a shit ton of beer.

Health Nut:

  • Use olive oil, vinegar, and seasoning instead of Italian dressing.
  • Skip the parm you boring bastard.
  • Eat only asparagus for your entire meal. Wash down with water and a protein shake.
